How to Find Happiness In Your Career
With only a handful of days left to this year, we wanted to send you into 2021 with some tips on how to find happiness in your career. If you give these a try and still feel stuck, reach out to us. We can help you find a career you love.
Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.
-Dalai Lama,
Given that most people spend most of their waking hours at their jobs, it’s important to be happy. Career dissatisfaction can spiral into other areas of your life, causing anxiety, depression, mood swings, relationship problems — it’s not pretty.
Here are several tips you can start to use today for a happier work life:
- Be Nice to Your Coworkers: These are the people you will spend your days with. It’s important to be friendly, professional, and helpful.
- Seek Out Autonomy: No one likes to be micromanaged. If you find that you are constantly being needlessly managed, have a conversation with that person about their expectations of you in your role. Oftentimes, people micromanage because they feel anxious. Calming their fears and showing that you can do your job with minimal oversight will go a long way towards reducing micromanagement.
- Prioritize Your Non-Work Time: Take a lunch break. Unplug after hours. If you are constantly thinking about work, you are potentially neglecting other areas in your life – including your own self-care.
- Never Stop Learning: Break free of the routine of doing the same tasks over and over by accepting new challenges and learning new skills whenever possible. This shows initiative and makes you more valuable to your company.
- Decorate Your Space: We know that this won’t apply to everyone, but if you can, try to decorate your workspace with things that make you happy, inspire you, or remind you of good times.
We hope that these simple tips help you get your year started off on the right track! If you or someone you know is looking for their next opportunity, we work with some of the most innovative companies out there. Check out our job listings.
