6 Reasons to Use a Recruiter to Find Your Next Job
Many people describe themselves as employed but not happily employed. Have you been thinking about changing direction in your career but haven’t taken the leap because of the stress of job hunting? You may want to think about working with a recruiter. A good recruiter cuts through all the complications that come with looking for a job and get you matched up with an employer that’s right for you. There are many ways recruiters make searching for a job more manageable. Here are a few:
Time.
Do you have the time to spend 8 hours a day scouring through online job boards and newspapers for job openings? Recruiters do. It’s their full-time job to be aware of all the latest and greatest job opportunities so they can match the right position to the right person.
Expertise.
Recruiters work closely with local businesses and are committed to finding the best possible candidates for the job. Once they find out as much as possible about your talents and job preferences, they work to match you up with a situation that has the best chance for success for both you and the employer. Recruiters succeed only when both you and the employer are happy.
Cost.
There’s a common misconception that it’s expensive to hire a recruiter to help you find a good job and that the higher the fee, the better the job you’ll get. Not true. Recruiters are compensated by the businesses that are looking for new employees, NOT the job seeker. If your potential recruiter is charging a fee, find another recruiter.
Credibility.
If a business has hired a recruiter to fill a position, they must feel that recruiter has the talent to find the right candidate. Therefore, you have a better chance of landing that job with a recruiter’s recommendation.
Networking.
You can reach out to your family, friends, old coworkers, and your former college professors to see what they know about good jobs for you. No matter how big your network of help is, the recruiters’ network is bigger. Probably much bigger. Nobody knows your local job market better than a good recruiter. They can help you make connections you didn’t realize existed.
Partnership.
A good recruiter will help you throughout your job search. They will help you craft a polished resumé or portfolio, provide interview coaching, and even point you toward training services if there are some holes in your expertise. They know what the employer is looking for so they can give you advice, not only to help you get hired but to also make sure you’re successful once you begin that new job.
I know I’ve made it sound like recruiters are superheroes, and in many cases, it will seem like they are, but that doesn’t mean they should do all the work for you. You, as a job seeker, also need to do your homework. Update your resumé; beef up your LinkedIn profile; learn all you can about the businesses you want to work for, and always be available. If the perfect job comes up and your recruiter reaches out to you, but you don’t return the call right away, there’s a good chance the next guy on the list just got their dream job.
